Three Peaks Challenge for Homelessness relief
2nd March 2023
This June, WAVE are participating in the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge to raise money for local charity Happy Days. They are a Halifax-based charity bringing hope to the homeless through community and social enterprise.
Happy Days operate supported accommodation for 103 residents throughout Calderdale and Kirklees, helping those who have been street homeless, are recovering from addictions, have poor mental health, or have been referred via probation services.
The is no national figure for how many people are homeless in the UK, and there are growing concerns that many people experiencing homelessness are not being accurately recorded in official statistics. New figures released by the government suggest the number of people sleeping rough is 35% lower than the peak in 2017, but 74% higher than in 2010. With the current cost of living crisis, many households are becoming increasingly closer to homelessness in the UK.
The largest categories for households seeking help for homelessness are males with no children, aged 25-49. Men living on the street outnumber women at a ratio of six to one.
The plan to end homelessness is only possible if there is enough housing available. You and I can help this cause by following the fundraising link. Please donate if you are able to, it could change someone’s life.
