In December 2019, we became the first refrigeration engineering consultancy to achieve Investors in People (IIP) accreditation. As a young yet established and highly respected business, achieving accreditation is a testament to our company and our people. Not only did we succeed with accreditation, but we also achieved Silver Status; something very few companies achieve. At the time of accreditation, we rank 7 out of 140 IIP accredited businesses who operate in the construction sector, and 158 out of all 1,751 Investors in People accredited businesses (0-49 employees). The IIP accreditation benchmark score is 724/900, Wave achieved 834/900!
The overriding executive summary of our IIP assessment identified that:
“You have created an absolutely fab place where people love coming to work; they respect and admire what you have achieved, are full of appreciation about the opportunities that you are providing them to grow and develop into roles they never believed they were capable of; much in part to your belief and encouragement. They feel that they are part of a family and are invested in playing their role in the success of the business. You contribute to the wider community through taking on trainees, sponsoring local initiatives, and supporting charities”.
For the senior team at WAVE, gaining accreditation and such feedback demonstrates that we are doing the right thing by our people, and this in turn enables our team to deliver an excellent service to our customers. Furthermore, achieving accreditation will support our business in attracting the best people into WAVE.
IIP is a continuous journey, and there are improvements that the leadership will act on to achieve an even higher accreditation when renewed in 2022! Since our successful accreditation and announced in September 2020, we were shortlisted in three categories at the Investors in People Awards 2020:
- Employer of the Year – Silver Status 0-49 employees
- The Social Responsibility Award for our Sustainable Development Goal achievements
- Leader of the Year (up to 250 employees) – James Bailey
WAVE founder James Bailey was incredibly humbled at being shortlisted in the Leader of the Year category. Our Operations Manager Ellie Clare commented “James has created a fantastic company to work for which we are all very proud of him. We are extremely grateful for all his dedication and passion. This is a massive achievement and being shortlisted is well-deserved. Well done James!”.
Though we did not win an award, to be finalists in three categories is extremely rewarding as it demonstrates that WAVE truly invest in our people. It is also a testament to the efforts of our team and the fantastic organisational culture that we have established in less than five years that WAVE has been trading.
All the team would like to thank our valued customers who contribute significantly to our achievements as they are the ones who make our teams growth and success possible.
Update December 2020
On the 14th December we received our annual Investors in People assessment where we scored 866 out of 900, demonstrating the continuous improvement of the leadership and people-centric culture at WAVE. This represented an improvement of 32, and an incredible uplift against the average Investors in People benchmark score of 726 out of 900. Furthermore, our 2020 assessment ranked WAVE at Number 1 out of 155 Investors in People accredited business who operate in the construction sector, and 38 out of all 1,917 Investors in People accredited businesses (0-49 employees). The team at WAVE could not be any prouder of our Number 1 IIP ranking!
